We built this drying module around a shortwave infrared halogen lamp for one simple reason: to pull moisture out of the substrate without wrecking the color. It’s focused heat that dries quickly, keeps energy use down, and leaves the finish looking exactly the way you want it.
What’s really going on under the hood
The module runs on a 400V setup and puts out 2500W. That’s a lot of power packed into a 300mm quartz tube, which means serious heat intensity in a small space. The payoff is speed—moisture disappears fast, with only a short exposure window, so the coating doesn’t soak up excess heat. But here’s the catch: high watt density is great for speed, but it also means your cooling and thermal management have to be up to the job. If you push the module hard, heat builds up around the work area. You’ll need solid airflow and some shielding to keep everything stable and prevent components from drifting.
The materials and the little details that matter
The halogen element sits inside a quartz tube, built to heat up quickly and hold steady output over and over, cycle after cycle. The tube coating is chosen to shape the spectrum the right way—keeping the energy concentrated in the infrared band that targets water, while cutting back on visible light and UV that can shift pigments. And the R7s connector? Not an afterthought at all. It gives you a clean, straight termination that handles high current safely and turns the lamp into a straightforward drop-in replacement on standard fixtures. Installation is simple: align, seat, and lock. No messing around with fragile end caps.
How it feels on the line—and what you gain
On a coating line, you need surface moisture gone fast, without triggering color shift or blooming. Shortwave infrared hits the wet layer directly, not the air around it, so you dry exactly where you need to. The controlled spectrum helps protect the finish, and with 2500W at 400V, cycle times stay short. You also use less energy per part, because the heat is focused and the response is immediate—no long warm-up, no idle waste.
