If you’ve spent any time with glass silk-screening, you know the struggle. It’s a constant balancing act. You need enough heat to cure the ink, but if you push too hard, the glass starts to distort. Go too light? Your ink smears or just won’t stick. It’s frustrating. That’s where long-life infrared heating tubes come in. Instead of just blasting the whole piece of glass with heat, these tubes target the ink layer specifically. It’s a much cleaner way to work.
Keeping Your Lines Sharp
The trick is getting the ink to its curing temperature fast. We use short-wave radiation because it hits the surface of the ink way quicker than medium or long-wave options. Why does that matter? Because it stops the “bleeding” effect. Your lines stay crisp and sharp. But here’s the thing: you have to be careful. While fast heat locks in the pattern, uneven heat leads to bowing. To stop that from happening, we suggest zoning your heater banks. It keeps the heat flat across the whole conveyor, so you don’t get those annoying dips or curves in your glass.
Gear That Actually Lasts
Nobody wants to spend their weekend recalibrating line temperatures because a lamp gave out. We build these tubes with high-purity quartz and specialized filaments so they don’t just burn out the moment things get intense. They hold their wattage for thousands of hours. It just makes life easier. And if you want to speed up your belt and get more product out the door, you’ll want higher wattage per millimeter. Just a heads-up, though—more heat density puts a lot of pressure on your wiring. Make sure your contactors can handle that initial power surge, or you’ll be replacing parts way sooner than you’d like.
The Trade-off with Integrated Tempering
Putting your curing and tempering into one flow is great for saving floor space. It’s efficient. But it also means you have a much smaller margin for error. If your IR tubes start to drift, you could accidentally mess with the strength of the glass. It’s a risk. To keep things safe, keep a close eye on your pyrometers. You want to hit that tempering point perfectly without scorching the ink. It takes a bit of vigilance, but the results are worth it.
